Marketing Time Travel

30 Apr

Advertisements have become so well integrated into our daily lives and current culture that we sometimes fail to even notice them, or realize that we are being advertised to. On the one hand, this seems like masterful accomplishment of businesses, designers, and marketing firms alike, but a small part of me can’t help but miss the beauty, allure, and artistry of old fashion advertisements that present themselves as just that, yet still command attention and appreciation. Check out some of these vintage travel posters, they are absolutely gorgeous:

Now that we are so accustomed to detailed photographs, and as a society, are relatively skeptical of content in situations where we know we are being directly advertised to, it is questionable whether illustrative advertisements could ever be truly successful in the travel industry again. They would certainly stand out and draw attention, but would they be effective in influencing travelers to purchase expensive flights or choose a particular destination or airline?

I agree with how beautiful these posters are. They are very visually interesting and you just don’t see this type of advertising, especially in the travel industry anymore. I think that the industry should go back to this type of advertising, particularly for places known for their art.
