5 Things That Make Your Workspace Inspirational

1. Live Plants – While this may be old news, live plants are a tried and true method to perking up your workspace. They add color and life, improve air quality, and there are many claims that they make you happier. Plus, nature can be a great source of inspiration.

2. Lave Lamp – Ok…so it is no longer 1972, but lava lamps are still pretty cool. I mean who can really resist the charm of colorful wax blobs defying the laws of gravity? I know I can’t. Lava lamps are a great way to add some funky flavor to your workspace and serve as a constant reminder of motion, which can be a useful element in design.

3. Music – Keep your favorite tunes nearby (and a set of headphones if you work in close proximity to others…nobody wants to be that co-worker). Listening to some good music and drowning out distractions can help you get in the zone so you can pump out some great work.

4. Design You Admire – Have at least one piece of design that you find unique or inspiring displayed in your workspace and either change it or add more pieces often (a fine alternative is to plaster your walls with your favorite designs). Constantly surrounding yourself with good design is a great way to stay current, and it forces you to mentally note good techniques and innovative concepts.

5. Mobility – This may not be an option for everyone, but technology certainly allows for it these days. If you find yourself strapped for ideas, inspiration, or creativity, a change in venue may be just what you need. Pack up your essentials and set up shop outside, at your favorite coffee shop, a city street bench, or any other place that suits your fancy. Mobility helps to prevent monotony and can be refreshing and invigorating.
